We have a connection with nature
that is undeniable. When we garden with spirituality, we are reclaiming our natural birthright. Being in the outdoors, breathing the fresh air and toiling in the dirt are great ways to feel our bodies and spirits working together in harmony. Not to mention the lovely healthy food that we are creating for our bodies! Here are a few simple suggestions on how to get started along the spiritual gardening path.
Make a plan.
Most people “dig” in so to speak without much of an idea where they are headed. Spend some time surveying your ground and making a list of what you would like to create.
Keep it simple.
Many people make the mistake of trying to start big when small and simple is really a better way to go. That way you won’t give up half-way through a project because it takes too much of your time.
Gage your project to the amount of time you have each week.
If you only have Saturday or Sunday afternoons, then you will only have a few hours a week to devote to your project.
Add on each year.
Start with one or two ideas and then each year add on.
Small can be beautiful. Even if you live in a high-rise, there will be a space to plant a small variety of things such as herbs and a few smaller vegetables like radishes and green onions. These fresh varieties will add flavor to your salads.
Tour neighborhoods. Go for walks and see what other people have for gardens. Most people are very proud of their work and will be more than happy to share their ideas.
Get professional help. Most nurseries are full of information on gardening. It is best to ask for help on the off season, however when workers have more time to spend with you.
Enjoy your creations.
Spend as much time in your garden as you can to feel the quiet and enjoy the solitude.
Getting back to nature is one of the best ways to connect with our spirituality. Whether it is gardening, walking or just sitting and listening to the birds singing and watching the sun setting, we can feel closer to our Source in the
outdoors. Make a commitment to slowly increase your time outside. You will feel fitter, more energized and definitely happier.
