Finding the “Perfect” Career

“Things do not change - we do” Henry David Thoreau  1817-1862

Is your current job serving you well? When we don’t want to get out of bed in the morning, or we become physically sick, then it is time to reflect on the situation. Sometimes this may lead to looking into a job change.  Here are some things to consider first:

Don’t let fear or doubt stop you -  our egoic thinking would like to keep us where we are because of some false sense of security.  Our egoic mind does not like change and will do anything to stop us from trying.  Don’t listen to the doubts and think BIG!  God has a bigger plan for you than you could ever dream for yourself!

Make a visual representation of your dream job -  start by putting together on paper in words and pictures, what your job would look and feel like.  Be specific and let your imagination to go wild.  Spend time every week working on this.  You will notice your vibrations elevate positively.

Work on updating your resume -  get help from a mentor, or a professional, who will help you sell yourself.  There are many businesses which help with developing such profiles.  One I have used professionally is Mindful Visions and Ventures. Check out this website for information.

Consider going back to school- this is highly recommended for a number of reasons. First of all, there may be upgrading necessary in your area. Secondly, it proves how serious and dedicated you are about advancing yourself. Most courses are available on a part-time basis. Allow for a transition period, where you work and go to school while you are honing your new skills.

Start searching - spend time looking in the paper and on the internet for job opportunities. The right one will eventually come along. Just keep looking. Make inquiries and drop off your resume when appropriate. NEVER GIVE UP!

Consider starting your own business - this can happen slowly while you are still in your old job. This will keep you financially going while you are making the transition. I am personally starting on this venture myself, as I approach the end of my first career at 53. While I am still teaching, I am branching out into my private practice.

Spend time working toward your dream job every day. You will attract what you want over time. While you are working on this, your attitude will change in your current job and you will feel happier.
